Gastritis
What is Gastritis?
Gastritis is a condition where the lining of the stomach becomes inflamed or irritated. Normally, this lining acts as a protective barrier, coated with mucus to shield the stomach wall from the strong acids used in digestion. When this barrier is weakened or damaged, stomach acid can start to harm the tissue underneath—leading to inflammation and discomfort.
What causes Gastritis?
Several factors can increase the risk of developing gastritis. These include infections (such as Helicobacter pylori), long-term use of certain medications (like anti-inflammatories), excessive alcohol use, and underlying health conditions. Inflammatory diseases such as Crohn’s disease can also make someone more prone to gastritis.
