What does endoscopy cover?

Endoscopy is a general term for procedures that use a small camera to examine an area inside the body. In gastroenterology, different types of endoscopy are used depending on which part of the digestive system needs to be investigated. You do not need to work out which type yourself — a Consultant Gastroenterologist can review your symptoms and advise which investigation is appropriate.

Which endoscopy procedure do I need?

The right investigation depends on your symptoms and the part of the digestive system that needs to be examined.

Gastroscopy

For reflux, indigestion, sore throats or other symptoms from the upper digestive system. A thin, flexible camera passes through the mouth to examine the oesophagus and stomach, with throat spray or sedation to keep you comfortable.
